The poster presentation, “REAL-WORLD MANAGEMENT SKILLS THE USE OF CASE
STUDIES,” is focused on work in its infancy that hopes to find a better way to engage
management students both online and in the classroom. Case study work is not new,
but a more deliberate approach through training and creativity is being undertaken as
the shift toward online work has left the “group work” in limbo and management
students need to have an avenue to collaborate while using critical thinking skills to
solve real-world problems
Not only are students going to be engaged with this work, but faculty will also be
involved as they will undergo training in best practices, find novel ways to utilize artificial
intelligence (AI) as well as technology-based case work that enables the use of real
time data from within the industry.
Ultimately, the goal will be to embed the case work and technology into the course
delivery platform, so that it can be modified to handle any number of case scenarios,
introduce technology to present real-time issues and be available to both faculty and
industry leaders to provide feedback for the learner.
Finally, the goal is engagement, problem solving, teamwork and critical thinking for
students to be better prepared as industry leaders before they enter the workforce.
Textbooks and lecture still have a place, but engagement means more than a
discussion board, so this “fresh” look at using cases is key to preparing students for the
modern world.
